Step beneath the Lake District fells for an eerie, lantern-lit storytelling experience deep inside England’s last working slate mine.
For a limited time this October, Honister’s tunnels transform into a stage for spine-tingling tales drawn from the mountain’s past – stories inspired by real lives, real loss and the legends that refuse to fade.
Guided by the flicker of your host’s lantern, you’ll descend into the pitch black where miners once toiled, uncovering chilling accounts of those who never made it home, the mysterious “Lost Level” and the haunting story of the Grey Lady of Fleetwith Pike.
Every echo, every drip, every cold breath of air carries a memory — of the people who shaped this mountain, and the spirits who may never have truly left.
Unfortunately, due to the uneven terrain and steep steps, the Ghost Tour is not wheelchair accessible. However, we welcome all visitors, and our cafe and visitor centre are fully accessible. For more information or if you have specific requirements, please contact us.
We recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear for the ghost tour. As some areas involve climbing steps and walking on uneven ground, suitable footwear is essential for safety and comfort.
